Colonels Outlast Tigers in Five

Nashville --- The TSU volleyball team went down to the wire against EKU, dropping a 3-2 (22-25, 25-15, 25-18, 16-25, 13-15) decision Saturday afternoon in Kean Hall.

 

After dropping the first set, TSU bounced back to win the next two and claim a 2-1 match lead. EKU, however, extended the match by winning set four before a 15-13 win in the fifth set sealed the match.

                                                           

Tennessee State (5-13, 3-7 OVC) recorded 65 kills and 81 digs compared to Eastern Kentucky’s (4-16, 3-7 OVC) 55 kills and 71 digs and out blocked the Colonels 20 to 10. TSU (.267) also recorded a better attack percentage than EKU (.159) but had nine reception errors to the Colonels’ four.

 

Seniors Candace Saleaumua and Christian Lowe led the offensive charge for TSU with 19 kills each in addition to 18 and 10 kills, respectively. Terakka Walker notched 18 digs for the Tigers while Yamari Padilla-Collazo (15) and Shawna Ruiz (11) also recorded double-digit kills. Collazo also dished out 41 assists.

 

Lindsey Loescher led EKU with 29 kills in addition to 15 digs while Bridget Mustard added 12 kills. Abby O’Conner turned in 28 digs for the Colonels.

 

The Tigers will not return to action until Friday, Oct.24 when they host the Golden Eagles of Tennessee-Tech at 7 p.m. in Kean Hall.
