Nashville --- The Tennessee State volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision to OVC opponent Morehead State Friday night in Kean Hall.

Tennessee State (5-12, 3-6 OVC) recorded an attack percentage of .115 while Morehead State (18-2, 9-0 OVC) posted a .259 for the match and remained unbeaten in the conference.

Candace Saleaumua led TSU with 17 kills in addition to 13 digs while Christian Lowe chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs. Terakka Walker recorded a team-high 15 digs for the Tigers and Shawna Ruiz added 10.

TSU got off to a slow offensive start in the first set as MSU captured a 6-1 lead and extended the advantage to 18-6 on a TSU attack error. The Eagles never looked back en route to the 25-15 win.

TSU grabbed the lead (9-4) early in the second set but MSU came back to tie the set 10-10. Both teams battled for the rest of the set into extra points. With the score knotted 27-27, two timely blocks gave TSU the 29-27 win.

Much like the first set, Morehead carried the momentum early in set three jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The Eagles extended the lead to 16-8 and 23-14 before going on to win 25-15.

In the fourth set, the Eagles opened up the lead (9-3) following seven unanswered points, including four aces behind the serve of Ashley Doscher. A kill by Terakka Walker sparked a 4-0 run down the stretch but it wasn’t enough as Morehead went on to win 25-17.

The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
