Candace Saleaumua led TSU with 17 kills in addition to 13 digs while Christian Lowe chipped in 11 kills and 11 digs. Terakka Walker recorded a team-high 15 digs for the Tigers and Shawna Ruiz added 10.
TSU got off to a slow offensive start in the first set as MSU captured a 6-1 lead and extended the advantage to 18-6 on a TSU attack error. The Eagles never looked back en route to the 25-15 win.
TSU grabbed the lead (9-4) early in the second set but MSU came back to tie the set 10-10. Both teams battled for the rest of the set into extra points. With the score knotted 27-27, two timely blocks gave TSU the 29-27 win.
Much like the first set, Morehead carried the momentum early in set three jumping out to a 7-1 lead. The Eagles extended the lead to 16-8 and 23-14 before going on to win 25-15.
In the fourth set, the Eagles opened up the lead (9-3) following seven unanswered points, including four aces behind the serve of Ashley Doscher. A kill by Terakka Walker sparked a 4-0 run down the stretch but it wasn’t enough as Morehead went on to win 25-17.
The Tigers return to action tomorrow when they host the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky. Match time is slated for 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
