Tigers Come Up Short Against UAB

Nashville, Tenn. --- The TSU volleyball team dropped a non-conference match 3-1 (25-22, 15-25, 16-25, 18-25) to UAB Tuesday night in Kean Hall.


Tennessee State (2-8) had a .243 attack percentage for the match while Alabama-Birmingham (12-3) turned in a .340 performance.  TSU tallied a total of 53 kills and eight blocks while UAB posted 66 kills and 12 blocks.


The Tigers hit a scorching .500 in the first set and recorded 21 kills. Trailing 20-21 late in the first set, a kill by Saleaumua sparked a run the saw the Tigers score the final five points of the set and claim the 25-23 win.


After capturing a 1-0 match lead, the Tigers dropped the next three sets. UAB recorded 20 kills in set two before posting an attack percentage of .355 in the third set win. The Blazers used a 9-4 run to pull away in the fourth set and held on to the lead for the rest of the contest.


Christian Lowe led the offensive charge for TSU with 18 kills in addition to 15 digs. Candace Saleaumua also posted double-digit kills (10) and tallied a team-high 18 digs and 27 assists. Terakka Walker recorded 15 digs for the Tigers. 


The Tigers will return to action on Friday at 7 p.m. in Kean Hall against the Skyhawks of UT-Martin.
