Volleyball Kicks-Off Season at Purdue Tournament
Nashville, Tenn. - The Tennessee State University volleyball team will kick off the 2008 campaign at the 17th Annual Mortar Board Purdue Premier hosted by Purdue University at Belin Court in the Holloway Gymnasium from August 29th 30th in West Lafayette, Ind.
The defending OVC Tournament Champions will face Kansas State University in the opening match on Friday, August 29th.The KSU Wildcats are ranked 14th in the CBS College Sports Network/American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Top 25 Poll. Match time is slated for 4:30 p.m. CT.
On Saturday, the Tigers will match-up against tournament host Purdue at 10 a.m. CT. The Boilermakers open the 2008 volleyball season ranked 25th in the CBS College Sports Network/American Volleyball Coaches Association Top 25 Poll.
TSU will play their last match in the round-robin tournament when they face the Blue Devils of Duke University. The match is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
“We are excited to face the high caliber teams. We have a lot of talented newcomers and we are eager to see how they react to this level of competition,” said Head Coach Kathy Roulhac. Our preseason conditioning and workouts were extreme and tough. The team worked hard and we anticipate a strong and competitive showing.”
TSU will be matching up between the three schools for the first time in the program’s history. The TSU volleyball squad features two returning players and ten newcomers.
Seniors Christian Lowe and Candace Saleaumua lead a host of talented Tigers. Lowe was named to the 2007 Ohio Valley Conference (OVC) All-Newcomer Team and the 2008 OVC Preseason First Team while Saleaumua was named to the 2008 OVC Preseason Second Team.
The Tigers will travel to the University of Kentucky on September 10th before opening the home schedule with a match-up against Alabama A&M on September 16.
