THE LITTLE BLUE ENGINE THAT COULD; LADY TIGERS DERAIL MOREHEAD
NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State University volleyball handed Morehead its first OVC loss of the season by defeating the Eagles 3-1 (30-24, 30-27, 25-30, 30-23) Tuesday night in Kean Hall. With the win TSU improves to 8-7 (6-1 OVC) while Morehead moves to 12-6 (6-1 OVC). Four Lady Tigers posted double figures in kills led by Kelly Davis (16). Collese Dornan (15) and Endia Oliver (13) also tallied double-digits while Christian Lowe added 11. Candace Saleaumua led with 21 digs in addition to 48 set assists for a double-double while Lowe and Davis recorded double-doubles of their own with 19 and 11 digs, respectively. Melissa Silva had 16 digs while Kamille King chipped in 12. Ashley Doscher led Morehead with 17 kills while Katelyn Barbour tallied a team-high 23 digs. Eager to put a mark on its unblemished OVC record, TSU pounced on Morehead in game one. The Lady Tigers swelled the lead to 12-4 following a kill by Candace Saleaumua. Morehead would never recover as TSU went on to win game one 30-24. With Morehead leading 15-7 in the second game, TSU went on an 8-2 run to even the score at 15. The score would remain over the next several points. TSU managed to outscore Morehead down the stretch to squeeze out the 30-27 win. After hitting a highly respectable .302 and .244 in games one and two, TSU hit an unfortunate .096 in the third game. Untimely hitting errors helped propel Morehead to the game three victory. Both teams battled from the onset of game four. The score stayed close until TSU rallied off six unanswered points to push its lead to 24-17. The Eagles would cut the lead down to five (25-20) but that would be as close as they would get as the Lady Tigers held on to win 30-23. The Lady Tigers return to action this Friday when they host the Skyhawks of UT-Martin. Game time is set for 7 p.m. in Kean Hall.
