TSU VOLLEYBALL DEFEATS REIGNING OVC CHAMP JACKSONVILLE STATE
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team snapped Jacksonville State's 33-match win streak against OVC opponents by besting the Gamecocks 3-2 (14-30, 30-28, 30-23, 26-30, 15-10) Saturday evening at Pete Matthews Coliseum. With the win the Lady Tigers improve to 7-8 (5-1 OVC) while the Gamecocks move to 8-5 (5-1 OVC). The match didn't begin favorably for TSU as the Lady Tigers dropped the opening game 14-30. TSU bounced back from the game one loss and won the next to matches to go up two games to one. Jacksonville State, however, would not go away and outscored TSU 8-4 down the stretch to claim the game four win and extend the match to a game five. Sensing the victory, the Lady Tigers jumped out to a 9-3 lead in game five on a kill by Kelly Davis. JSU never recovered and TSU would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game. Four Lady Tigers posted double-figures in kills. Collese Dornan tallied 15 while Christian Lowe added 12. Endia Oliver and Kamille King each had 10 kills. Candace Saleaumua paced the Lady Tiger defense with 23 digs while King and Lowe recorded double-doubles with 18 digs and 15 digs, respectively. Melissa Silva also chipped in 12 digs for the Lady Tigers. The Lady Tigers return to the court on October 2, to face Morehead at home. Game time is slated for 6:00 p.m.
