Birmingham, Ala.---The Tennessee State University volleyball team swept Samford (30-28, 30-23, 30-27) Friday night in Siebert Gym. TSU improves to 6-8 (4-1 OVC) while Samford moves to 8-6 (3-2 OVC). TSU trailed by three (22-25) late in game one but reclaimed the lead (28-27) on a Samford attack error. With the game tied 28-28, TSU scored the final two points to squeeze out the win. Leading by one (9-8), the Lady Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 7-3 to swell the lead to 16-11 in game two. Samford never recovered on the way to the loss. Game three had somewhat of an inauspicious start for the Lady Tigers, as the Bulldogs opened the game up with seven unanswered points to grab a 7-0 lead. TSU began to chip away at the lead and eventually tied the game 16-16. With the score knotted at 24-24, TSU outscored Samford 6-3 to seal the win. Collese Dornan paced the Lady Tiger offense with a team-high 16 kills while Kelly Davis added 12. Candace Saleaumua had a double-double with 38 assists and 15 digs. Melissa Silva tallied 12 digs and Kamille King chipped in 10. The Lady Tigers return to action tomorrow to face Jacksonville State. Game time is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
