NASHVILLE---The TSU volleyball team fell (21-30, 27-30, 26-30) to cross town opponent Lipscomb University Tuesday night in Allen Arena. The Lady Tigers fall to 5-8 while Lipscomb improves to 6-8 on the season. Tennessee State got off to a slow start in game one. Two back to back aces by Lipscomb's Stefine Pease gave the Bisons a 5-1 lead. Three more unanswered points by Lipscomb forced a TSU timeout. TSU got to within two (13-15) on a kill by Collese Dornan but Lipscomb responded with an 8-0 run to extend its lead to 23-13 on the way to the win. Game two was a battle from the onset. Both teams went point for point with neither team claiming more than a two point lead for most of the game. Lipscomb managed to pull ahead 22-17 on an ace by Brittany Simmons and continued to build on its advantage. Trailing by six (19-25), TSU outscored Lipscomb 6-3 to bring the score to 25-28 but the Bisons managed to squeeze out the 30-27 win. After trailing early, TSU took a 8-7 lead on a Lipscomb attack error. The score stayed close until the Bisons put together a rally that stretched the lead to 21-15. TSU made runs down the stretch to close the gap but Lipscomb was able to hold on for the win. Collese Dornan and Candace Saleaumua each had nine kills to lead TSU. Saleaumua also posted a double-double with 23 assists and 10 digs. Kamille King led with 12 digs and Melissa Silva tallied 11. The Lady Tigers return to OVC action on Friday at Samford.
