BOWLING GREEN, Ky.---Despite a couple of fiercely contested battles, the TSU volleyball team fell short against Gardner-Webb in the final game of the Lady Topper Invitational. The Lady Tigers dropped the match in four (24-30, 30-16, 29-31, 29-31) and moved to a record of 1-5 overall. Kelly Davis led the team with 22 kills. Kamille King added 18 kills and Makena Nahooikaika chipped in 11. Candace Saleaumua handed out 51 assists in addition to 20 digs. Melissa Silva had 16 digs while Kamille King and Christian Lowe each tallied 13 digs. The score was close throughout the first game until Gardner-Webb went on a 7-0 run to jump ahead 22-13. The Bulldogs were able to maintain the lead for the rest of the game. The Lady Tigers bounced back from the game one loss and grabbed a 30-16 win in game two to even the series 1-1. Both teams battled from the first serve in games three and four. The score went back and forth with neither team leading by more than four at any point. TSU fought down to the wire, but the Bulldogs were able to keep the Lady Tigers at bay. The Lady Tigers return to action on Tuesday, September 4, when they face cross town rival Belmont. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m.
