Martin, Tenn.--- The Tennessee State University volleyball team defeated the Skyhawks of Tennessee-Martin 3-2 (21-30, 30-23, 30-19, 29-31, 15-7) Saturday night in Skyhawk Arena. In doing so, the Lady Tigers go into the OVC Tournament as a fourth seed.
Tennessee-Martin claimed the first win of the match behind efficient hitting. The Skyhawks hit a scorching .500 in game one while the Lady Tigers on managed a hitting percentage of .136.
Tennessee State responded by winning the second and third games with ease, 30-23 and 30-19. UT Martin won the fourth game 31-29 to force the fifth and deciding game. However, it was TSU that dominated the fifth game and posted a 15-7 victory to win the match 3-2.
Christian Lowe led the Lady Tiger offense with 21 kills in addition to 11 digs. Collese Dornan (16), Kelly Davis (11), Endia Oliver (10), and Candace Saleaumua (10) also posted double figures in kills.
The Lady Tigers will play fifth seed Murray State in the first round of the OVC Tournament on Thursday, November 15. The contest will be streamed live on OVCSports.TV.
For the first time in OVC history there are three regular-season volleyball champions. Jacksonville State, Morehead State and Southeast Missouri each earned a share of the league’s regular-season crown. The Gamecocks earned the No. 1 seed and the right to host the Conference tournament while Morehead State is No. 2 and Southeast Missouri is No. 3.
