NASHVILLE---Tennessee State fell to visiting Murray State 0-3 (20-30, 25-30, 26-30) Saturday evening in Kean Hall.
TSU (9-9, 7-2 OVC) had won five consecutive OVC matches until the loss to Murray (10-8, 7-2 OVC). With the win, Murray extends its conference winning streak to seven.
TSU was led by Collese Dornan's 13 kills. Kelly Davis and Kamille King each recorded 14 digs.
Alison Mugler paced the Racer offense with 15 kills while Heather Norris recorded a game-high 17 digs.
Murray jumped out to a commanding 15-8 lead, forcing a TSU timeout in game one. Following the timeout, the Racers would continue to build on the lead. TSU never recovered and dropped game one 20-30.
The second game was played closer. The score went back and forth. TSU had a better a hitting percentage (.308) than Murray (.213) in game two but it wasn't enough. With the score tied 24-24, the Racers outscored the Lady Tigers 6-1 over the next several points to claim the win.
Game three wasn't an offensive masterpiece for either team, as TSU hit .098 while Murray posted a hitting percentage of .186. TSU claimed a brief 10-6 lead before a 5-1 run by Murray knotted the score at 11.
With the score tied 12-12, the Racers rallied off three unanswered points to go up 15-12. Murray would hold on to the lead for the rest of the game.
TSU returns to action against Austin Peay on Thursday, Oct.11. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
