Volleyball Claims Fifth OVC Win

NASHVILLE---Tennessee State won its fifth straight OVC match with a 3-1(30-21, 30-17, 27-30, 30-24) win over UT-Martin Friday night in Kean Hall. In doing so, the Lady Tigers improve to 9-8 overall and 7-1 in the OVC.
Tennessee-Martin falls to 8-10 (2-6 OVC).
Martin scored the first point of game one but it would be TSU that would take control. TSU grabbed a 2-1 lead on a kill by Collese Dornan and never looked back on the way to the 30-21 win.
TSU carried the momentum from the first game into game two, jumping out to a 19-9 lead on a service ace by Kamille King. The Lady Tigers maintained the lead for the rest of the game.
The Skyhawks raised their level of play in game three. With the score tied 4-4, UTM went on a 6-2 run to extend its lead to 10-6. The Skyhawks would hold on to the lead in route to the 30-27 win.
Both teams battled from the onset of game four. The score went back and forth with both teams claiming the lead at one point. With a 25-22 lead down the stretch, TSU scored five straight points to close out the game and seal the match.
Kelly Davis and Christian Lowe led TSU with 15 kills while Endia Oliver added 12. Candace Saleaumua recorded 19 digs, Melissa Silva had 17, and Christian Lowe posted 13 for the Lady Tigers.
Anna Gautreau led UTM with 15 digs.
TSU hosts Murray State tomorrow in Kean Hall for continued OVC action. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
