NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State University volleyball team defeated Austin Peay 3-0, 30-21, 30-19, 30-25, Wednesday night in Kean Hall. With the win the Lady Tigers improve to 12-10 on the season and 5-2 in the OVC. Austin Peay, (3-16,1-6 OVC), began game one with a purpose, jumping out to a 13-7 lead. A composed Lady Tiger team, however, soon began to chip away at the lead. A kill by Meesha Jackson brought TSU to within one (13-14) forcing an Austin Peay timeout. Austin Peay managed to hold on to a small lead out of the timeout but the Lady Tigers seized the lead (18-17) on a Kelly Davis kill and never looked back. Game two saw Tennessee State a little more focused. The Lady Tigers took an early 10-5 lead over the Lady Govs following an attack error by Austin Peay's Dorota Szymska. The Lady Tigers never trailed in game two and pulled away with the 30-19 victory. The Lady Tigers went point for point with the Lady Govs from the outset of game three. Austin Peay stretched it's lead to 17-13 on a block by Szymska but the advantage would be short lived as TSU rallied nine straight points behind the serving of Endia Oliver to take a 23-17 lead. Tennessee State went on to win the game 30-25. Junior Kelly Davis recorded another double-double with 13 kills and 10 digs while Erika Godbolt boasted a double-double of her own putting down 11 kills and 12 digs. Meesha Jackson had 10 kills on 16 attempts hitting .500. Tiana Maua collected 23 set assists while Mariana Rezende added 16. Tennessee State hit .351 for the game while Austin Peay only managed to hit .101. The Lady Tigers return to action Friday the 13th in Kean Hall when they host Tennessee-Tech. First serve is slated for 7 p.m.
