BIRMINGHAM, Alabama---In its first game back from a fiercely-contested loss against Belmont this past Tuesday, TSU volleyball returned to its winning ways Friday night, defeating the Bulldogs of Samford University, 3-0, 30-27, 30-25, 30-28 . In doing so, the Lady Tigers established a new record with the program's 100th match victory. The win also marked the 200th career win of head coach Kathy Roulhac. Game one saw each team seize the lead several times but it was the aggressor Tennessee State that finished the game strong to claim the 30-27 win. The second game of the match began close but TSU asserted control handing the Bulldogs a 30-25 loss. Samford jumped out to an early game three lead but the Lady Tigers maintained their composure, allowing them to get back into to the contest and squeeze out a 30-28 win. Kelly Davis led the TSU offense with 12 kills while Erika Godbolt added nine kills and 15 digs. Katie Lippi recorded 14 digs as Tiana Maua chipped in 10 digs and 29 set assists. Kelley Smith led the Lady Tigers with six blocks. The Lady Tigers will face Jacksonville State tomorrow for the second time this season. In the first meeting of the season, a visiting Jacksonville State defeated the Lady Tigers 3-0. Game time is set for 2:00 p.m. CT.
