NASHVILLE---The Tennessee State Unversity volleyball team pushes it's winning streak to three by defeating Tennessee-Martin 3-0 (30-16, 30-23, 30-26) on Friday night in Kean Hall. With the win, Tennessee State improves to 9-8 overall and 2-1 in the OVC. Tennessee-Martin falls to 1-2 in the conference and 12-5 overall. TSU put on an offensive show in the first game of the match getting out to an early 8-1 lead. A block by Meesha Jackson pushed the lead to 9-2 forcing UTM to call it's second timeout of the game. The Skyhawks came out of the timeout and scored two straight points but TSU quickly recovered. A service ace by Endia Oliver pushed the TSU lead to ten (22-12) and the Lady Tigers never looked back, finishing the game 30-16. Game two was fairly close for most of the contest but the Lady Tigers managed to pull away for the win. After two games, TSU had a nine block advantage over the Skyhawks hitting the ball at .308. Tennessee State went back and forth with a determined UT-Martin squad in game three. A service ace by Tammy Konitzer pushed the UTM lead to 21-17. Trailing by four, two consecutive kills by Tiana Maua and Kelly Davis brought the Lady Tigers to within two (19-21). TSU continued to trail the Skyhawks until a service error by UT-Martin's Dimphy Sasse tied the game at 26-26. The Lady Tigers then rallied four consecutive points to clinch the game and the match. Each team recorded 44 digs for the match while the Lady Tigers out-blocked the Skyhawks 16 to 8. Meesha Jackson led the Lady Tiger offense with 13 kills on 17 attempts, with a hitting percentage of .706. Kelly Davis added nine kills and led TSU in digs with 11. Erika Godbolt chipped in 10 digs. The Lady Tigers return to action tomorrow, Sept. 30, when they square off against Murray State at 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
