TSU LADY TIGER VOLLEYBALL TEAM FALLS TO BELMONT IN SEASON OPENER

Nashville, Tenn.---The Tennessee State University Lady Tiger volleyball team opened the 2006 season at cross-town rival Belmont University, Tuesday night. After a hard fought three matches in front of about eighty TSU faithful, the Lady Tigers fell 3-0 to the Bruins. The 2005 Ohio Valley Conference regular season champions battled back and forth with Belmont in the first game before the Bruins secured a 30-23 win over the Lady Tigers. The second game of the match saw Belmont ahead for most of the stanza, leading by as many as 10 points, 23-13. Following a kill by Kelly Davis, TSU clawed within one point, 26-25, before the Bruins pulled away to win 30-26. Belmont held on to win the match, out-scoring the Lady Tigers 30-14 in the third game. TSU out-blocked the Bruins with a total of nine team blocks to Belmont's four. Senior setter Tiana Maua led the Lady Tiger offense with 16 assists. Erika Godbolt led the defensive charge with 13 digs for TSU. The Tennessee State University volleyball team returns to action Friday, Sept. 1st, for their first game of the Clemson Tournament.
