August 10, 2006 Three Lady Tiger Netters Named To OVC Preseason Volleyball Team Lady Tigers Picked To Finish Second Three Lady Tigers were named to the 2006 Ohio Valley Conference preseason volleyball team. Junior outside hitter Kelly Davis (Farrell, PA) and senior middle hitter Kelley Smith (Michigan City, IN) were named to the first team. Senior setter Tiana Maua (Spokane, WA) was named to the second team. The preseason OVC volleyball team is selected by the league's head volleyball coaches and sports information directors. TSU which won a share of its first regular-season title in 2005, is predicted to finish second in 2006 with 179 points and eight first-place votes. Eastern Kentucky, which shared last year's title with the Lady Tigers was picked to finish first with 181 votes and seven first-place votes. Tennessee State is coming off its most successful season in program history winning a share of the 2005 OVC regular season title last year with a 22-11 overall record and 14-2 league mark. The Lady Tigers have six starters among seven letterwinners returning from the 2005 season. Among the returnees are junior outside hitter Kelly Davis and senior middle hitter Kelley Smith. Davis, a Farrell, PA, native, was a 2005 All-OVC second team selection after ranking among the league leaders with 0.98 blocks per game. Smith, who hails from Michigan City, IN was a second team All-OVC pick last year, finished third in the OVC with a .317 hitting percentage. Senior setter Tiana Maui, from Spokane, WA, was a 2005 All-OVC second team and All-OVC newcomer selection last year. Lady Tiger head coach Kathy Roulhac, was named the 2005 OVC Coach of the Year, after completing the first year at the helm of the TSU volleyball program. Tennessee State will open their 2006 on Tuesday, August 29th at Belmont University (Nashville) before departing on a sixteen-day, 9-match road trip beginning with the Clemson Invitational in Clemson, NC, September 1-3.
