LADY TIGERS GAIN SOLE POSSESSION OF SECOND PLACEWITH THREE-GAME SWEEP OVER LADY COLONELS
NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State volleyball team kept its winning streak intact with a three game sweep over visiting Eastern Kentucky, Friday night. The victory was TSU's eighth consecutive in conference play and ninth overall. With the 30-27, 30-24, and 33-31 win, TSU improves to 8-1 within the conference, breaking a tie with the Lady Colonels in the league race. TSU is 16-8 overall while EKU falls to 15-6 and 7-2. The Lady Tigers had a .210 hitting percentage. Four players had double digit kills for the Lady Tigers, led by Kelly Davis with 15. Kara Keifer added 12 while Erika Godbolt and Tiana Maua had 10 each. Maua, the Lady Tigers' setter had a .455 hitting percentage and had 48 set assists. The TSU defensive effort was led by senior Katrelle Armwood with 46 digs. The Lady Tigers had 99 digs as a team while EKU had 94. The Lady Colonels had a .170 hitting percentage. Jessica Sabath led EKU with 12 kills and 26 digs. Brittany Noble added 23 digs. TSU continues its homestand Saturday with a match against Morehead State at 2 p.m. in Kean Hall.
