NASHVILLE --- Tennessee State defeated visiting Samford University 3-1 Friday night in its Ohio Valley Conference home opener for the Lady Tigers fifth consecutive victory. With the win over Samford for the second time in two weeks by an identical 3-1 score, TSU improves to 12-8 overall and 4-1 within the OVC play. The four OVC wins already breaks a school mark of the most victories in conference play. The previous best was three wins set during the 1997 season. The Lady Tigers cruised to a 30-13 game one victory and won game two, 30-24 before the Bulldogs bounced back to win game three, 34-32. The Lady Tigers responded to clinch the match with a game four, 30-27 win. Kelly Davis led a balanced offensive attack with 11 kills as TSU had a team hitting percentage of .282. Tiana Maua had 28 set assists while Katrelle Armwood had 11 digs. Samford (4-14, 1-4) was led by Ashley Klare 's 10 kills. TSU hosts Jacksonville State Saturday at 2 p.m. while Samford plays at Austin Peay.
