VOLLEYBALL OVERPOWERED BY FIRST-PLACE EASTERN ILLINOIS

CHARLESTON, Ill. --- The Tennessee State volleyball team (4-23, 1-11 OVC) was defeated on Friday night on the road at Eastern Illinois (21-4, 12-0 OVC). The Panthers handily took the match, 3-0. EIU never let the Lady Tigers find a rhythm offensively or defensively. The most points Tennessee State would be able to score against the red-hot Panthers would be 17 in the second game. Eastern Illinois won the games, 30-12, 30-17, 30-11, respectively. The Lady Tigers did manage to maintain their blocking edge with a total of 9.5 team blocks to Eastern Illinois' 7.0. Junior Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) and freshman Kelly Davis (Farrell, Pa.) led Tennessee State with three kills each. Sophomore LaQuita Marsh (Chattanooga, Tenn.) recorded seven digs. The Lady Tigers return to action Saturday as they take on Southeast Missouri in Cape Girardeau, Mo. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
