NORMAL, Ala. --- The Tennessee State volleyball team (3-9, 0-0 OVC) dropped a heartbreaker to Alabama A&M (5-4, 0-0 SWAC) to open a four-match road trip. The final score was 3-0 in favor of the Lady Bulldogs. Game one saw both teams matching each other's offensive efforts, almost going point-for-point until Alabama A&M pulled away, 20-15. Serving by freshman Allyson Buckner (Humble, Texas) inched the Lady Tigers to AAMU, but the Lady Bulldogs broke away down the stretch, hitting .152 to TSU's .032, en route to a 30-24 win. Game two and three saw Lady Bulldogs Phylis Hetie and Alex Brazelton lead an offensive attack that netted 18 kills between the pair. Despite a strong effort, Tennessee State was unable to get close enough to strike, falling 30-15. Buckner started off the third game with an ace to attempt another rally but Alabama A&M took the lead and never looked back, taking the final game, 30-18. Junior Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) led the Lady Tigers with seven kills and seven digs while classmate Jennifer Washington (East Pointe, Ga.) notched eight digs. Tennessee State returns to action on Tuesday for interstate action at Chattanooga. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
