NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State volleyball team (1-4, 0-0 OVC) dropped its home opener to crosstown rival Belmont (5-0, 0-0 A-Sun) on Tuesday night. The match went 3-0 in favor of the Bruins, who extended their win streak to five. The Lady Tigers came on strong in the opening game, taking a slim two point lead, 7-5, early before a Belmont surge behind Colleen Nilson gave the Bruins the 30-25 win. Games two and three saw the young Tennessee State squad attempt to make several rallies but were stopped by the more experienced Belmont team, dropping the games, 30-15 ad 30-14, respectively. The Lady Tigers return to action on September 10th as they take on St. Francis of Pennsylvania in the opening contest of the SpringHill Suites Invitational hosted by the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. The match is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.
