MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- Freshman Kelly Davis (Farrell, Pa.) of the Tennessee State University volleyball team received her first honor as a collegiate player, being named to the University of Memphis Invitational All-Tournament team over the weekend. She was one of only six athletes to receive the honor and the lone freshman named to the team. Davis finished the weekend with 26 kills, 87 assists, 24 digs, four service aces and four block assists. She also hit .181 over the four-match stretch, including a .286 performances against Illinois-Chicago. Head Coach Kathy Roulhac was pleased but not surprised by the honor. "[Kelly's award] was expected. She is one of the team's strongest players and she had a good weekend. What is most interesting is that we brought her in as a hitter but transformed her into a setter. "She is a very agressive player and is one of the best hitters I've ever coached. I'm looking forward to even better things [from Kelly] as the season progresses." Tennessee State returns to action on Tuesday, September 7 as it hosts crosstown rival Belmont for its home opener at Kean Hall. Match time is set for 6:30 p.m.
