MEMPHIS, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University volleyball team (1-3, 0-0 OVC) was able to pick up its first 'W' of the season on the final day of the University of Memphis Invitational. The Lady Tigers fell to Alabama A&M (2-2, 0-0 SWAC) in the early game but rebounded to defeat Delaware State (1-5, 0-0 OVC). In the day's first contest with Alabama A&M, Tennessee State looked like it was going to reverse its fortunes of the previous day. The Lady Tigers forced the game to extra points before the Lady Bulldogs won, 32-30. AAMU went on to take the last two games, 30-14 and 30-22. Freshman Ashley Douglas (DeSoto, Texas) led the Lady Tigers, hitting .400 with six kills. In the nightcap, the Lady Tigers was stretched by first-time opponent Delaware State to four games before TSU took the match, 3-1. Junior Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) led the Lady Tigers, hitting .462 with a season-high 15 kills. Classmate Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) notched a match-high 20 kills. Tennessee State will play its home opener on September 7, hosting crosstown rival Belmont. Match time is set for 7 p.m. in Kean Hall.
