VOLLEYBALL LOSES CLOSE ONE TO SAMFORD
The Tennessee State Volleyball team (4-9, 0-2 OVC) dropped the second game of its opening Ohio Valley Conference weekend to Samford (5-8, 1-1 OVC) on Saturday at Kean Hall. The final score of the match was 3-1. Despite falling in game one, 30-19, the Lady Tigers rebounded and came on strong in game two, going on to take it, 30-20. The Bulldogs were not going down without a fight, recording a .250 hitting percentage for the second game to TSU's .225. Game three saw Samford capitalize on back-to-back Tennessee State errors and move ahead two games to one while game four saw the Bulldogs come up with crucial kills down the stretch. Two Lady Tigers recorded double-doubles -- sophomore Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) had 11 kills and 11 digs and senior Jennifer Corral (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) had 18 kills and 11 digs. Corral's 18 kills ties her season-high. Rookie Shelby Myers (Smyrna, Tenn.) collected a game-high three service aces and 26 set assists on the day. Tennessee State returns to action on Oct. 3 as it travels to Cape Girardeau, Mo. to take on Southeast Missouri State. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
