VOLLEYBALL FALLS IN OVC OPENER TO JACKSONVILLE STATE
The Tennessee State Volleyball team (4-8, 0-1 OVC) fell in its Ohio Valley Conference opener on Friday night to Jacksonville State (9-3, 2-0 OVC). The final score of the match was 3-0. The Lady Tigers put up a tough fight in the opening game tieing the Gamecocks several times throughout but falling, 32-30. Jacksonville State buckled down in the second game and held the Lady Tigers to only 13 points en route to winning, 30-13. Game three saw Tennessee State regain some of its fire from the opening game. With sophomore Thereza Wright (El Paso, Texas) serving, the Lady Tigers rolled and took a 13-8 lead. However, the Gamecocks proved too strong and took the final game, 30-21. Senior Jennifer Corral (Thousand Oaks, Calif.) led the Lady Tigers with 14 digs. Rookie Krystie Kaukola (Fairfax, Minn.) added 20 set assists while sophomore Catherine Armwood (Durham, N.C.) collected 13 digs. Wright and Kaukola recorded the lone service aces for Tennessee State. The Lady Tigers return to action on Saturday as they host Ohio Valley Conference newcomer Samford. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
