LADY TIGERS LOSE TOUGH MATCH AT TREVECCA;LATER DROP HOME OPENER TO CHICAGO STATE
NASHVILLE --- The 2002 volleyball season opened in a tough way for the Tennessee State volleyball team as the Lady Tigers dropped a tough five-game match at Trevecca before returning to Kean Hall to open the home season with a 3-0 loss to Chicago State. The visiting Cougars defeated TSU 30-20, 30-20, and 30-23. The Lady Tigers had a .022 hitting percentage in the game while the Cougars had a .296 percentage. Earlier on Labor Day, the Lady Tigers opened the season at cross-town opponent Trevecca University. The two teams battled for two-and-half hours with Trevecca taking the match in five games, 22-30, 30-22, 26-30, 35-33, and 15-10. The Lady Tigers had game point in game four, but Trevecca fought back to win 35-33 and set the stage for the fifth game. Trevecca built the early lead in game five to move to 4-2 on the season. TSU will next be in action this weekend at UAB Tournament along with the host school, Troy State and East Tennessee.
