Kenita Stokes was hired as the Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services in April of 2023.
Stokes is a passionate and dedicated individual who has made it her mission to promote academic achievement and success for student-athletes. Born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, Stokes developed a strong interest in both academics and athletics from an early age. She is a proud product of Jackson Public Schools and earned her undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Jackson State University.
After completing her undergraduate studies, Stokes moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she pursued graduate studies at Meharry Medical College and Tennessee State University. Her love for academia and her passion for athletics led her to join the Tennessee State University family in 2014. Over the course of seven years, she became an integral member of the Academic Services team, where she honed her skills in athletic academic advising and student-athlete development.
With her dedication, hard work, and expertise, she quickly rose through the ranks, serving as Assistant A.D. for Academic Enhancement and later as Associate A.D. for Academic Services at Grambling State University for two years. However, her heart remained with Tennessee State University, and she is thrilled to have returned to her alma mater to lead the Academic Services department.
Stokes is known for her unwavering commitment to academic excellence and her ability to inspire and motivate student-athletes to achieve their best both in the classroom and in their respective sports. She is deeply invested in the success and well-being of the student-athletes under her care, and she takes pride in helping them navigate the challenges of balancing their athletic commitments with their academic responsibilities.
Stokes is a true leader in the field of athletic academic advising and student-athlete development. Her passion, dedication, and expertise make her a valuable asset to Tennessee State University and the academic success of its student-athletes. She is excited to continue her journey with the Tiger family and looks forward to achieving new levels of success in the classroom and in the community.
