NASHVILLE --- The Tennessee State softball team opened practice for the upcoming 2018 season. Head coach Andrea Browning enters her first season at the helm of the Tigers after spending last year as an assistant.
Browning will take to the field with 14 returners, including six starters and four pitchers. The new coach also welcomes six newcomers to the fold as the Tigers look to improve on a 12-37 campaign and a 2-19 mark in the Ohio Valley Conference.
TSU took advantage of temperatures in the 60’s on Wednesday afternoon to spend the first practice on the field. The Tigers will continue workouts before starting classes for the spring semester on Tuesday, Jan. 16.
“I am really happy with the energy they brought today,” Browning said. “We are in a great starting spot and we are going to get a little bit better tomorrow. We will be doing a lot of conditioning and looking to get reps on the field.”
The Big Blue will open the season at the Troy Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9. TSU will play five games during the three day event.
