2017 Tigers: Tennessee State is 4-1 in its last five games, including a 7-4 win over Middle Tennessee on Wednesday evening at Tigers Field. The victory marked the first for TSU over MTSU since 2014. Selena Crafton and Courtney Gearlds combined for half of the teams 10 hits on the night. Crafton finished 3-for-4, while Gearlds went 2-for-3 and reached in her second plate appearnce after being plunked by a pitch. Gearlds was hit by a pitch for the 35th time in her career and became the all-time leader in TSU history in hit by pitches, passing Lindsey Burgess (2013-16). Lauren Woodard earned her first win of the season throwing a complete game and allowing just one earned run on six hits and a walk.

The Cougars coming in batting .289 as a team and are led by Zoe Schafer (.375) and Allison Smiley (.360). Schafer is second on the team in runs scored (17) and RBI (15), while collecting four doubles, a triple and shares the team lead in home runs with three. Smiley is tied for the Ohio Valley Lead in runs batted in with 27 and has a team high .461 on base percentage. Alyssa Haren provides the speed for SIUE leading the team with 12 stolen bases and 20 runs scored. The strength of the Cougars comes in the circle, as the pitching trio has combined for a 2.01 ERA and has fanned 237 batters in 181.1 innings, for a 9.15 K’s per seven innings. Senior Haley Chambers-Book is 11-4 with a save and a 1.80 ERA. Chambers-Book has punched out 125 batters in 97.1 innings of work. EIU boasts an offensive lineup with six batters hitting better than .300. Taylor Monahan and Kayla Bear are threats on the base paths with 19 and 18 stolen bases, respectively. Monahan is batting .359 with 15 runs scored, while Bear is hitting at a .344 clip with four doubles and four home runs and tops the team with 28 runs scored. Haley Mitchell (.362) leads EIU with 22 RBI and trails only Mia Davis (.372) in hitting. Michelle Rogers has posted an 8-6 record with a 2.58 ERA and 50 strikeouts in 73.1 innings. Rogers is joined by 2016 All-OVC pitcher Jessica Wireman who is 5-8 with a 2.93 ERA and 75 K’s in 76.1 innings of work.
