NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee State stepped out of conference play for the final time this season as they dropped a 10-1 contest at Lipscomb on Tuesday. The Tigers fell to 10-40, as Lipscomb improved to 25-24.
TSU was held to two hits on the evening by Lipscomb starter Mandy Jordan (3-2) who collected 11 strikeouts. Lindsey Burgess picked up the first knock with a single to left in the second, while Abi Stephens put the Tigers on the board with a solo home run to leftfield in the fourth. The blast was the fourth of the season for Stephens, her first since Mar. 6.
The Bison wasted no time to get on the scoreboard with five runs on four hits and three walks in the first inning off Tiger hurler Lauren Woodard. LU added a run in the fourth and four in the fourth to close out the Tigers in five innings.
Woodard (4-22) was tagged with the loss after giving up 10 runs, eight earned, on eight hits and four walks. The junior college transfer fanned two on the evening.
TSU returns to Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday as they begin a three-game series at Belmont.
