NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The 2016 Tiger Classic came to a close on Sunday evening with Tennessee State falling to Butler, 11-1. TSU finished 1-4 on the weekend and are now 2-8 on the season.
The Bulldogs (3-6) would get things going in the third inning as they took advantage of three hits and two Tiger errors to post a 3-0 lead on starting pitcher Lauren Woodard. The junior pitcher would yield two more runs in the fourth before being lifted in favor of Lauren Powell, who would toss the final three innings.
The Tigers were able to push across a run in the bottom of the sixth as Lindsey Burgess drove a double to the gap in left center to drive in pinch runner Robin Dickey.
TSU managed five hits of Butler pitcher Mikeila Boroff on the evening. Abi Stephens registered her third double of the season in the first inning and was joined in the hitting circle by Burgess, Lauren Dreitlein, Maddi Clark and Joselynn Yates.

Notes: TSU wore their white jerseys with blue pants … Lindsey Burgess moved into a tie for ninth all time at TSU in doubles with 21, tying Shannon Hicks (2001-04) … Freshman Abi Stephens has record four hits on the season and has yet to record a single – Stephens has three doubles and a home run.
