2015 Tigers: Softball coach Tom Opdenbrouw begins his second season as the skipper of the Tigers after finishing 11-37 in 2015. This marks the first time in school history that TSU has played in the Southeastern Louisiana Lion Classic. It is the second consecutive year the Tigers have opened the season in Louisiana after playing in the ULL Louisiana Classic and the LSU Tiger Classic a season ago. Six players who started at least 38 games last year return, including Lindsey Burgess, Courtney Gearlds, Danica Gleason and Joselyn Yates who all played in all 48 games. TSU boasts 14 newcomers - 11 freshmen and three transfers.

Southeastern returns two of the top three hitters from last year’s squad which hit .299 as a team. Katie Lacour led the Lions with a .484 batting average, recording 89 hits in 184 at bats, while scoring 46 runs and a .527 on base percentage. Kinsey Nichols batted .340, scoring 39 times while recording three doubles, seven triples and four home runs. Providing a power threat, Amber Sather (.286), finished with six doubles, seven home runs and led the team with 43 walks for a .491 OBP. Taylor Bishop earned a 3.11 ERA, finishing 14-9 in 29 appearances, 19 starts, while tossing151.0 innings.

Buffalo brings back six of their starting nine from 2015 return. Savanna Norcio topped the Bulls batting .343, with 25 runs, eight doubles, 17 RBI, 26 walks and a .444 OBP. Ashton Earnhardt (.299) added 17 runs, six doubles and was second on team in walks (12) for a .375 OBP. Charlotte Miller worked in 100.1 of Buffalo’s 319.1 innings, earning an 4-11 record in 30 appearances.
