Softball Opens Spring Practice
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State softball program opened practice on Friday evening in preparations for the 2015 season. The Tigers took advantage of the turfed indoor athletic facility for the three hour workout.
TSU returns five, including seniors Tayler Shimizu and Kate Morris, along with junior Lindsey Burgess and sophomores, Courtney Gearlds and Liz Stansberry. All five started at least 51 of the teams 56 games, with Morris and Burgess starting every game.
First year head coach Tom Opdenbrouw will have the aid of 11 newcomers for the spring. Five freshmen will be joined by six transfers, three sophomores and three juniors.
The Tigers are 20 days away from taking to the field against Incarnate Word and Central Arkansas. The first two games will be played on day one of the UL Lafayette/LSU Tournament in Lafayette. The final two days will be played in Baton Rouge as TSU will face Memphis and LSU on Saturday, before completing the three-day event on Sunday with a rematch against Memphis.
The Tigers will resume practice with two-a-days for the next three days before classes begin on Tuesday.
