Tigers Drop Non-Conference Double Header to Lipscomb
NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee State softball squad dropped a pair of non-conference games to Lipscomb on Wednesday evening at Tiger Field. The Bison jumped out early in both games and needed just five innings in both contests, picking up a 13-1 win in game one and 10-1 in the night cap.
The sweep allowed Lipscomb to improve to 11-14, while TSU fell to 8-15.
The Tigers found themselves trailing 12-0 before they were able to mount a threat. In the bottom of them third, TSU strung three hits together to score its first run of the evening. Kailey Richard singled to right center to plate Courtney Gearlds to make the score 12-1.
Amber Galyon (1-5) took the loss in the opener, while Kelly Young (5-8) earned the win.
Lipscomb picked up where they left off in game two, as they touched the Tigers for five runs in the top of the first inning.
Trailing 6-0 in the bottom of the third, TSU used the same trio to score its lone run of the game. Danica Gleason singled to open the inning for her second hit in as many games. The sophomore transfer would advance to second on a Gearlds ground out and moved to third on a wild pitch.
Richard collected her second RBI of the twin bill with a sacrifice fly. The freshman lifted a ball to centerfield allowing Gleason to tag and score to get the Tigers on the board.
Lipscomb added two runs in the fourth and the fifth to create the margin of victory. Taylor Green (5-6) suffered the loss working all five innings. Tanner Sanders earned the win to move to 6-6.
The Tigers return to Ohio Valley Conference play on Saturday, Mar. 21, as they host Austin Peay. TSU will travel to Murray State on Sunday for a double header beginning at 12:00pm.
