Freeman Named TSWA Player of the Week

Nashville, Tenn. - Tennessee State softball earned its second consecutive Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week honor. It was announced on Tuesday that freshman Kiarra Freeman got the nod for the week for her play at the Tiger Classic.

Freeman batted .421 (8-for-19) in six games with three multi-hit outings, five runs scored and the game-winning, inside-the-park homer in the tournament finale.

The Knoxville, Tenn., native collected two hits in the tourney opener against St. Louis and added two more hits, a walk, a stolen base and three runs scored versus Alabama State. The freshman walked once against Nebraska-Omaha and was 1-for-3 versus Indiana on the second day before collecting three more hits on Sunday - one against Mississippi Valley State and two versus Alabama State.

She also scored the game-tying run against MVSU, a game the Tigers won in extra innings, before her inside-the-park homer down the leftfield line versus Alabama State.

Last week, Tiger first baseman Audrey Sensing was named TSWA Player of the Week last week for her performance at the Tiny Lassiter HBCU Classic.

Tennessee State will continue their spring break with games at Florida State and Florida A&M on Wednesday and Thursday, respectively.
