Tigers Drop Contest to Chattanooga

Auburn, Ala. - Tennessee State dropped their third consecutive game at the Auburn Tiger Invitational on Saturday evening. The Tigers are now 0-6 on the season after a 9-1 loss in five innings to UT Chattanooga. The Mocs moved to 3-5 on the season.

The Tigers jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first inning. Freshman Kiarra Freeman and Kacie Daugherty each earned one-out walks and each advanced a base on a wild pitch. Freeman would take advantage of a drop third strike in which UTC catcher Anyssa Robles completed the out with a throw to first. The speedy outfielder broke home to give TSU an early 1-0 lead.

For the second consecutive day, TSU would run into trouble in the bottom of the first and watched an early lead turn into a five run deficit. UTC used a walk and six ground ball singles, four of which did not leave the infield, to create a big inning. Two Tiger errors capped off a six run inning for the Lady Mocs and a quick 6-1 lead.

UTC added three more runs in the fourth to provide a 9-1 lead. Shea Morris (0-4) struck out five in four innings and was tagged with the loss.

TSU was one out away from being no-hit when Daugherty crashed the party with a slap to shortstop that she beat by a step. The South Fulton native also picked up a stolen base two pitches later.

The Tigers final game of the tournament is scheduled for 11:30 am Sunday morning as they take on Indiana State. The game can be heard on tsutigers.com.
