Softball Continues Play at Auburn Invitational

Nashville, Tenn. - The Tigers return to the field at the Tiger Invitational in Auburn, Ala. Tennessee State will open the tournament on Friday, Feb. 15 with a pair of games. Northeast Conference member Bryant is up first at 10 am, followed by a 12:30 pm matchup with Auburn. The Tigers will finish with single games against Chattanooga and Indiana State on the final two days.

TSU is coming off a 0-3 opening weekend at the Mississippi State Kickoff classic. Sophomore Kate Morris and freshman Kiarra Freeman each finished with a .333 batting average. Morris notched a team high two runs batted in and earned two walks for a .500 on base percentage. Freeman was one of just three Tigers to cross home plate.

Freshman Jayna Hanawahine became the first player in school history to hit a home run in her very first plate appearance. The Hawai'i native finished the tournament with a .250 average and a .400 on base percentage. Hanawahine is leading the team with two runs scored.

The Bulldogs are led by a pair of All-NEC selections in sophomore Madeline Velasquez and junior Aubrey Mable. Velasquez led Bryant by hitting .385 with two home runs and a team high 12 doubles. Mable was one of three Bulldogs to start in all 45 games. The junior hit .367 and led BU with 47 hits, 35 runs, three triples, seven home runs, 23 walks and a .478 OBP. Mable also recorded 11 doubles.

Red-shirt sophomore Morgan Estell is off to a hot start picking up seven hits in 14 at bats for a .500 batting average. She tops the Tigers with 11 runs scored on the young season. Marcy Harper is 3-0 with a 1.53 earned run average and struck out 15 in 18.1 innings of work. Lexi Davis is 2-0 with a 0.78 ERA, while Hilary Mavromat is 1-0 with a save and has yet to allow an earned run.

Sara Poteat leads the Mocs with six runs, three doubles, a triple and a .421 average. Poteat is just ahead of Kasey Tydingco who is 6-for-15 (.400) and four runs scored. The pair is the only two Mocs who have swiped a bag in 2013. Taylor Deason, Rachel Albritton, and Kaisey Carson form the Chattanooga pitching staff. Deason is 1-2 and has fanned 14 batters in 12.2 innings, Albritton is 0-1 with 15 strikeouts in 12.2 innings and Carson is 0-1 with a 1.75 ERA.

The Sycamores scored 29 runs in their first five games at the Iowa State Invitational. ISU has five batters over .350 and are led by Morgan Allee's .9-for-18, .500. Allee has swiped six of the teams 13 stolen bases. Pitcher's Stephanie Fougerousse and Ashli Scott have shared the work in the circle with just over 17 innings of work a piece. Sougerousse is 2-0 with a 1.98 ERA and Scott is 2-1 with 16 strikeouts and is holding opponents to a .217 average.
