Tigers Return to Action on Friday and Saturday Versus Morehead State
Nashville, Tenn. – Tennessee State will host a Friday-Saturday Ohio Valley Conference series with Morehead State this weekend at Tiger Field. The Tigers and Eagles will play a doubleheader on the first day with first pitch scheduled for 1:00 pm. Day two kicks off with an Easter Egg Hunt at 12:00 pm on the Ed Temple Track directly behind the softball diamond. A single game at 1:00 pm will close out the day’s events. All the events are free and open to the public.
All TSU games can be heard on tsutigers.com.
The Tigers (10-21, 1-5) are coming off a 1-2 weekend as they hosted UT Martin and Southeast Missouri State. TSU won the first game against the Skyhawks 4-2, marking the first victory over the defending OVC champions since 2009. UTM grabbed game two, while SEMO picked up the win in the only game played on Sunday. Lightning and rain caused a delay during game one that lasted close to three hours, wiping out any chance for game two to be played before the start-time-curfew.
Senior Jennifer Givens has posted the second highest average in the OVC with a .395 average (34-for-86). Givens has crossed home plate 14 times on the season and continues to lead the Tigers with 13 stolen bases. Freshman Kiarra Freeman (.333) is tops for TSU with 16 runs scored, while fellow classmate Audrey Sensing leads with 16 runs driven home.
Sophomore Shea Morris is currently leading the conference with 47 strikeouts looking. She is third with 131 total punch outs. Morris holds a 7-10 record with a 2.78 ERA. Junior Olivia Gamache has lowered her ERA to 3.35 despite being 3-11 in decisions.
