Nashville, Tenn. - Shea Morris was named Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week, as announced by the conference office on Monday. Tennessee State finished 4-1 at the Tiny Lassiter HBCU Classic in Irondale, Ala., in which Morris was a perfect 3-0.
Morris allowed just one earned run in her three appearances for a 0.37 ERA. The sophomore held opponents to a .134 batting average and fanned 27 batters while allowing just five walks in 19.0 innings.
The Lawrenceburg, Tenn., product recorded her first shutout of the season, the third of her career, as she struck out a career high 12 batters against Howard. Her second win came in a six strikeout, five inning performance versus Maryland-Eastern Shore. In her final appearance of the week, Morris surrendered the lone hit for Hampton to the first batter of the game. She went on to punch out nine batters.
The second-year hurler now has 66 strikeouts in 54 innings this season. Her 256 K's over her first year and a half is third on the career list at TSU, just 18 behind second place.
This marks the second time Morris has earned the OVC Pitcher of the Week honor. She was named to the award for the week of March 26, 2012.TSU will return to action Friday, March 4 as they host the six-team Tiger Classic. Complete tournament schedule can be found on tsutigers.com.
