Clarksville, Tenn. - Tennessee State ran into a reversal of fortunes at Austin Peay on Thursday evening. The Tigers won the first game of the series last Wednesday in shutout fashion, only to experience the other side, as the dropped a 6-0 Ohio Valley Conference game to the Lady Governors. TSU fell to 10-18, 3-6 in the OVC, while APSU improved to 10-16, 4-8 in conference.
Austin Peay's Morgan Brewer worked her way out of a bases loaded jam in the first inning where she allowed one hit and three walks. Brewer settled in and scattered four hits and one walk the rest of the way for a five-hit complete game shutout. She kept the Tigers off-balanced as she collected a career high ten strike outs.
Brewer improved to 5-7 on the season and out dueled TSU freshman Shea Morris, who fell to 7-10. Morris surrendered nine hits and a walk while giving up six runs, two earned. Morris registered six strikeouts, upping her OVC leading total to 114.
The Lady Governors bunched their nine hits between three players. Ashley Bolda and Paige Neely were 3-for-3, while Lauren de Castro was 3-for-4. The trio worked together to do all the damage in the three-run fourth inning and three-run sixth.
The Tigers are on the road for a three game OVC series with UT Martin over the weekend. A double header with a 1:00 p.m. start is scheduled for Saturday, March 31. The two teams will finish the series at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 1.
