Troglin Paces Tigers to Win Over Campbell
Sunday, March 4, 2012

Gainesville, Fla. - Tigers used a solid pitching performance from Kelly Troglin to edge Campbell University on Saturday evening. Tennessee State moved to 6-7 on the season with the 3-2 win over the Camels (9-10).

Troglin kept Campbell at bay as she enticed their hitters into the first two outs in every inning from the second through the sixth, taking all game strategies out of the opponents' hands. In the first inning, the Camels lead-off hitter would reach on an error, but the Tiger defense would settle in as first baseman Jordan Rehl cut off a ball ticketed for right field and delivered a strike to shortstop Ashley Haynes at second base to eliminate the lead runner. Troglin picked up her first of three strikeouts for out number two and then battery mate Devin Amar gunned out a would-be base stealer to get out of the first inning unscathed.

Campbell did use a two out rally in the sixth to score two runs, making the score 3-2 in favor of TSU. The Big Blue used a run in the second and two in the third to build, what Troglin made, a comfortable lead.

Brittany Davis drove a ball through the middle of the infield in the second inning allowing Rehl to score from second base for the early lead. In the third, Savannah Gutierrez led off with a walk and advanced to second on a single by Troglin. Tedra Alford drove a ball to the fence in left center for a double scoring Gutierrez and advancing Troglin to third. Rehl followed with a check swing ground out to the pitcher, which allowed for Troglin to scamper home for the 3-0 lead that held up until the two-run Campbell sixth.

In the seventh, the Camels opened with a lead-off single and used a sacrifice bunt and a ground out to put the tying run at third base. But Troglin made her presence felt again as she froze the final batter on a 3-2 pitch for the strike out and the Tiger win. The Chattanooga native scattered six hits and a walk as she improved to 1-2.

Tennessee State will close out the Lipton Invitational at 11:15 on Sunday morning against Gardner-Webb.
