Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University softball team will resume OVC play this weekend against Eastern Illinois in a three-game series at Glenn & Joan Williams Field.
The Tigers (7-24, 1-7 OVC) will road trip to Charleston, Illinois to face the Eastern Illinois Panthers (16-5, 3-0 OVC). The series will start on Saturday, March 26, and continue through Sunday, March 27. The first game will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. followed by the second game at 3:00 p.m. On Sunday, the Tigers and Panthers will conclude the series at 1:00 p.m.
The Tigers recently dropped a doubleheader to Jacksonville State, falling to the Gamecocks 8-3, before losing a 3-1 battle in the second game. Tedra Alford went 3-of-7 at the plate recording one double during the doubleheader, while Brittany Webb was able to hit her third long ball of the season tallying two RBI.
Eastern Illinois is currently riding a school best, 11-game winning streak, Murray State being their most recent victim. The Panthers defeated the Racers in a three game series (W5-2, W4-0 and W5-0), in their first OVC action of the season. Freshman, Carly Willert had an impressive offensive performance and display of power over the weekend going 4-of-9 at the plate, scoring five runs while batting in seven, along with hitting an impressive three homeruns. Also, EIU newcomer Morgan Biel had a productive weekend, she was very reliable at the plate, as she went 5-of-8 while batting .625.
As a team, the Panthers are batting .288 with 94 runs on the season as their pitchers are holding opponents to an impressive 0.96 ERA.
Tedra Alford (.333) and Caitlin Eaton (.322) continue to lead the TSU offense with 30 and 28 hits, respectively. Eaton has also been able to display power this season as she is tied for first on the team in homeruns with Brittany Webb. Brittany Webb (.262) continues to bat runners in, leading the team with 21 RBI.
Overall, TSU has a .244 batting average and a 5.37 ERA.
