Charleston, Ill. --- The Tennessee State University softball team fell to Eastern Illinois, 10-3, in the series finale Sunday afternoon at Williams Field.
Tennessee State (7-27, 1-10 OVC) registered five hits and two errors in the contest while Eastern Illinois (19-5, 7-0 OVC) finished the game with 13 hits and no errors.
Freshman pitcher Olivia Gamache (0-7) was tagged with the loss for TSU. She faced 38 batters and only allowed four walks.
Eastern Illinois posted runs in the first three innings to jump out to an, 8-0, lead in the bottom of the third.
Tennessee State finally got on the board in the top of the fourth with a two-spot to cut the deficit down to, 8-2.
Jalisa Bradley christened the inning with a double to left center before Brittany Webb reached base on a walk. Both runners advanced on a wild pitch before Bradley crossed the plate on a groundout RBI by Brooke Blackford.
Webb moved to third and later scored on another groundout RBI from Jasmine Brimm to give the Tigers their second run of the game.
EIU answered with a couple of runs in the bottom of the frame to go up, 10-2, before TSU rallied for another run in the top of the fifth.
Brittany Davis singled to right field before Aisha Walker entered to run for her. Walker moved to third on a single by Kelly Troglin before advancing to third on a wild pitch. A groundout by Jalisa Bradley drove the runner in.
With TSU trailing, 10-3, the Tigers went down in order in the sixth and seventh innings as the Panthers held on claim the series sweep.
TSU returns to action on Thursday, March 31, at Austin Peay. First game of the doubleheader is slated for a 5 p.m. start at Lady Govs Field.
