Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team will return to OVC action this weekend against UT Martin in a three-game series at Tiger Field.
The Tigers (7-19, 1-2 OVC) will face the Skyhawks (13-8, 3-0 OVC) in a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. while Sunday's single game is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
The Tigers are coming off a couple of non-conference losses to No. 11 Tennessee and Western Kentucky earlier this week. Tedra Alford hit .667 over both games with an impressive 4-of-6 showing at the plate. She recorded two doubles and scored one run.
Tennessee-Martin opened the OVC weekend with a sweep over Murray State. The Skyhawks defeated the Racers, 6-5 and 3-0, in the doubleheader before claiming the series finale, 14-6.
The Skyhawks have four players hitting better than .300 led by Amanda Brandenburg (.323). Jordan Garrett (.318) and Jenny Bain (.300) lead the team with 21 hits while Bain also has a team best 16 RBI.As a team, UTM is batting .256 with a 2.90 ERA.
Overall, TSU has a .251 batting average and a 5.55 ERA.
Sunday's single game will be broadcast on the Middle Tennessee Sports Network. The broadcast can be heard live at mtsnonline.com with the pregame coverage beginning at 12:45. Sunday will mark the network's first-ever broadcast of any NCAA sport.
