Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team will make the short trip to Clarksville this week to face Austin Peay in a doubleheader Thursday evening.
Game one of the doubleheader is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. with the second game following shortly after. Both contests will be played at Lady Govs Field.
Tennessee State (7-27) will look to snap a 10-game losing streak and improve on its 1-10 conference mark on Thursday against Austin Peay (6-22, 1-7 OVC).
The Tigers are most recently coming off a road loss to Eastern Illinois in which TSU fell, 10-3. The Tigers were swept in the overall series after suffering a couple of losses to Jacksonville State earlier in the week.
Tedra Alford is leading the Tigers with a .333 batting average and has a team best 33 hits, including 10 for extra bases. Alford is tied for first in the OVC in doubles while ranking fourth in the league hits. Caitlin Eaton (.326) is second on the team with 29 hits and 12 RBI while Brittany Webb (.244) leads the squad with 21 RBI.
Tennessee State is batting .240 while turning in an ERA of 6.00.
Austin Peay sits just above Tennessee State in the conference standings and has lost six of its last eight. In their last outing, the Lady Govs defeated Eastern Michigan, 5-4, but ultimately dropped the series, 1-2. APSU's only conference win of the season was a, 7-6, victory on the road at UT Martin.
The offensive leaders for the Lady Govs are Catie Cozart (.278) with 25 hits and Lauren de Castro (.293) with 24 hits and 13 RBI. Tiffany Smith (.286) has tallied a team best 16 RBI.
Austin Peay has a team ERA of 4.83 while batting .231.
