Softball shut-out on day two of Ragin Cajun Tournament

Lafayette, La. --- On day two of the Ragin' Cajun Tournament the Tennessee State University softball team dropped contests to Maine and Stephen F. Austin.

The Tigers led early but couldn't hold off a late rally by the Black Bears in a, 7-3, loss to Maine (1-2).

TSU gave up 11 hits while only recording three hits in a, 6-0, loss to Stephen F. Austin (2-8) in the evening game.

As a team, Tennessee State (4-4) tallied 11 hits and had a batting average of .224 through both games. Brittany Webb and Jalisa Bradley finished the day with a .400 batting average.

Game One

Jalisa Bradley recorded a stolen base and went 2-of-3 at the plate while Brittany Webb posted the Tigers' only RBI of the game. Caitlin Eaton (2-1) was charged with the loss. She yielded seven hits and three walks in six innings pitched.

The Tigers snagged the first lead of the game, 2-0, in the opening frame.  Aisha  Walker reached base on a bunt single before advancing to second on a hit by Caitlin Eaton.

On the next play, Jalisa Bradley singled to the pitcher to move Eaton over to second base. Meanwhile, Walker advanced to third and then scored on a throwing error. Eaton also crossed the plate before the inning ended.

After a couple of scoreless innings from both teams, Maine finally got on the board in the fourth. The Black Bears score two runs off of three hits to even the game.

TSU regained, 3-2, the lead in the bottom of the frame when a double by Jalisa Bradley and a single from Brittany Webb led to Bradley crossing the plate.

In the top of the sixth, Maine used a four-run inning to go on top, 6-3 before adding another run in the seventh to make the score, 7-3.

Despite getting runners in scoring position in both the sixth and seventh innings, the Tigers were not able to capitalize.

Game Two

After a couple of scoreless innings from both teams, Stephen F. Austin scored a run in the third and fourth inning to go up, 2-0.

TSU threatened in the fourth inning when a couple of walks put a runner in scoring position with two outs. The next batter, however, hit a pop-up to end the inning.

The Tigers got a couple runners on base in the fifth inning but eventually left them stranded.

In the bottom of the sixth frame, SFA rallied for four-runs behind four hits to increase the advantage to, 6-0.  In the top of the seventh, the Tigers went down in order to end the game.

Olivia Gamache (0-2) was tagged with her second loss of the season while Tedra Alford, Aisha Walker and Brittany Webb each recorded hits for TSU.

TSU will face Lousiana-Lafayette for the second time in the conclusion of the tournament. Game time is slated for 12:30 Lamson Park.
