Nashville, Tenn. --- The Tennessee State University Tigers will close out the season with a three game series against Murray State. The series is slated to begin Saturday, April 30 with a double header. The first game of the twin bill will begin at 1:00 p.m., with game two following at 3:00 p.m. The series finale will be Sunday, May 1, at 1:00 p.m. for the Tigers' final action of the season.
In the Racers' (18-24, 9-14 OVC) most recent action against Eastern Kentucky they scored eight runs on just three hits, but it just wasn't enough to offset the impressive offensive display by Eastern Kentucky, who scored five runs in the first frame and went on to top the Racers, 9-8. As the Racers drew a season high 12 walks, Nikki Bruce capitalized, leading the Racer offensive charge, tallying five of the teams seven RBI on just two hits.
Murray State senior Jenna Bradley was recently named as the Addidas OVC Player of the Week (April 18-24). She garnered the award after she batted .692 with 12 RBI, along with 10 runs scored and four home runs the previous week.
As a team the Racers are batting .269, while the pitching staff allows 5.73 earned runs per game.
The Tigers' final home game against Middle Tennessee State was cancelled due to the inclement weather in the area, and they now approach their final action of the season.
As TSU prepares to close the 2011 campaign, Tedra Alford continues to lead the Tigers offensively. Alford is hitting .329, tallying 46 hits, eight of which have been doubles; four have been homeruns, leading to 23 runs scored and 14 RBI. Senior Brittany Webb has led the team in batting runners in as she has recorded 25 RBI on the season. Jalisa Bradley along with Alford are tied for first in the homerun category with four.
The Tigers are batting .235 as a team while the TSU pitching staff has a 6.32 ERA.
