Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team will return to conference play this weekend with a three-game series against OVC opponent Morehead State at Tiger Field.
Tennessee State (6-13, 1-1 OVC) is coming off of a pair of losses to Western Kentucky on Tuesday. TSU dropped a 6-5 decision to the Hilltoppers in extra innings before falling, 2-1, in the second game.
Overall, TSU is hitting .235 and has a 4.33 ERA. The Tigers currently have a .334 slugging percentage and a .968 field percentage. Brittany Webb (.333) leads the team with 18 hits and 10 RBI while Bridget Metzger (.333) has 15 hits and six RBI.
Morehead State (9-11, 2-0 OVC) opened up OVC play last weekend by sweeping Southeast Missouri (9-2, 7-5) in a doubleheader.
The Eagles are batting .241 and have a team ERA of 3.00. Rebecca Butler (.305) leads the team with 18 hits, 16 RBI and 11 runs while Amber Riddle (.306) has 15 hits and 12 RBI on the season.
Sarah Funston (2.81) leads the pitchers with five wins. Alex Gjevre (4-7) has a team best 2.70 ERA and has thrown 78 strike outs in 72.2 innings pitched.
Tennessee State and Morehead will meet for the 47th time in the all-time series history with Morehead holding a commanding 38-8 lead. Last season, MSU swept TSU in a three-game series at University Field.
Saturday's doubleheader is slated to begin at 12 p.m. with Sunday's single game scheduled for a 12 p.m. start at Tiger Field.
