Softball continues OVC play against Austin Peay

Nashville --- The Tennessee State University softball team returns to action on Tuesday with an OVC doubleheader against Austin Peay.

The Tigers are most recently coming off of a three-game series with the Eagles of Morehead State in which Morehead claimed 2-1. TSU lost, 5-3, before defeating MSU, 10-4, in the second game of the doubleheader. Morehead picked up a, 5-3, win in the rubber match.

Earlier in the week, TSU dropped a pair of close contests, 6-5 and 2-1, to Western Kentucky on the road in non-conference action.

For the week, Caitlin Eaton (.389) and Brittany Webb (.389) led the team with seven hits each. Eaton had three doubles and six RBI while Webb recorded two homeruns and also registered six RBI.

Pitcher Megan Hedrick went 1-1 and turned in a 3.77 ERA last week. She threw five strikeouts and gave up three walks in 13 innings pitched.

Overall, Tennessee State has a .238 batting average and a 4.23 ERA. Brittany Webb (.354) leads the team with 23 hits, including eight doubles and two homeruns. She also has a team best 13 RBI. Bridget Metzger (.340) has 18 hits, six doubles, one triple and one homerun.

Hannah Schnebly (4-4) has recorded the most wins and has a 3.37 ERA. Megan Hedrick (2-5) has a 4.59 ERA.

Austin Peay (5-21, 0-5 OVC) has lost seven straight including most recently suffering a three-game series sweep at the hand of UT Martin. The Lady Govs lost by scores of 6-1, 5-0 and 10-3.

The Lady Govs have a .200 batting average and a team ERA of 4.49. APSU has tallied 119 hits and 61 errors on the season.

Brittany Williams (.257) leads the team with 19 hits and eight RBI. Tiffany Smith (.254) has 17 hits including seven doubles and one triple.

Morgan Brewer (3.60) has four of APSU's five wins. She has thrown 42 strikeouts in 58.1 innings pitched.

Tennessee State and Austin Peay will meet for the 53rd time in the long series history. The Lady Govs hold a commanding 35-17 series lead over the Tigers. Last season, Austin Peay won the season series, 2-1. The Tigers suffered a 10-1 loss before defeating the Lady Govs, 2-1. APSU edged TSU 7-6 in the game three to claim the series.

First pitch of Tuesday's doubleheader is slated for 3 p.m. at Tiger Field.
